Morana sat on the table of the training room as a woman entered from the large doors. Her brown hair was curly and short, cut just below her jawline. Morana glanced at the woman wearing the simple dress, carrying a case with bandages.

“Sit,” Matthias growled. He stood in front of her, hands resting on either side of her, boxing her in. She didn’t know why he was being so bossy. She was the one with the injury. Not to mention the one who saved the day.

The woman dropped the case as Matthias stepped aside, a deep scowl on his face. The woman’s icy hands cupped Morana’s chin as she tilted it to the side, observing the dried blood across her cheek, just over the bone.

“Well, it wasn’t poisoned,” she observed, releasing Morana’s chin in a rough movement. Morana brought her hand up to the wound that now stung. While everything was happening, she had hardly noticed it, but now that Ronan and Garian were off, sending for the other lords, the wound had a bite to it.

Morana glanced at her fingers, stained pink. A cold pad hit her cheek, wiping away the blood and bacteria. The sharpness had Morana tensing as the woman disinfected the wound.

“Can’t you just heal it?” She looked at Matthias, who was standing and observing her with intense focus.

“She needed to check for poison first. That woman was from the Court of Light, and I still can’t figure out what the fuck Inara wants with you.” He crossed his arms. “If it isn’t cleaned, it would risk healing the wound over any poison, allowing it to fester.”

Morana glared at him. “And you took that risk with my shoulder?” she spat.

Matthias shrugged one shoulder, a faint smirk appearing on his lips.

The woman’s cold finger met her flesh, slowly working as the pain dulled.

“Wait,” Morana grabbed the woman’s wrist. A frustrated scowl crossed the woman’s face as she halted her healing. “Don’t heal it all the way.”

The woman looked at Matthias. He didn’t react.

“I want to remember,” Morana spoke, eyes bright with fire. There was something to be said about being left with the scar of what had happened. She wanted to remember why she was here. She wanted to see it when she woke up in the morning, remind herself of the demons chasing her. Most of all, as she thought about the attack, she wanted to remember that despite the shaking that wouldn’t work its way out of her hands, despite the fear that challenged her bravery, she wanted to remember that she could kill—if she needed to.

The woman nodded—brown eyes bright. She worked to heal the wound, stopping just before the pain fully subsided. She wiped her hands on a damp cloth and packed up the case she had brought with her.

Morana hopped off the table, touching the raised flesh on her cheek and looking to Matthias. He had said nothing about her request, but his dark gaze fixed on the scar now decorating her flesh.
